One of the great joys of travelling is the trhill of the unexpected. It's that magic vision, sound or taste that tingles your spine, slaps your face and disables your speech. It's the event, the person or the place the sheer memory of which shakes you physically by the solar plexus to rapture point. I travel, we travel, for the adventure and the scenery, for the culture and the fun - but ultimately, we all crave an experience. Time is not linear - don't let your senses fool you - and ageing is not a continuous process: we mature in steps, when we have learned something about the world around us or about ourselves. And we know exactly when that happens because we cannot go back; the change is irrevarsible.
